WHAT
Art Fun!
The exhibition DISQUIETED responds to the most compelling issues of the day, challenging our preconceptions and exposing our vulnerability in these turbulent times. A roster of renowned contemporary artists explore our social condition through paintings, sculptures, photography, and video installations, some immense in scale, including a haunting new installation by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, towering figures by American artist Charles Ray, and staggering conceptual photographs by German artist Andreas Gursky. Each of the 22 artists in this survey is among today’s foremost figures in contemporary art. Collectively, their works invite engagement and discussion of the elements of modern life that leave so many feeling disquieted.
Organized by the Portland Art Museum and curated by Bruce Guenther, curator of modern and contemporary art.
